In Iris and the Turtles, Iris enjoys everything on the island of St. Thomas.  Most of all she loves the sea turtles.  Through Iris and breathtaking illustrations, we learn about the turtles. The rhyming text and the stunning pictures make for a book to be enjoyed by readers (and lookers) of all ages.  At the end of the book there is more information about turtles and practical advice for those who want to see turtles and all marine life around for ages to come.  A list of organizations and their websites is included.  Iris and the Turtles is a precious treasure.

Iris and the Turtles is a delightful and informative children’s book. While the lyrical verse is quite well written by Melanie Miller, it is the captivating illustrations by Karissa Laffey that will mesmerize the readers. The dimension and depth that is given to each page immerses the reader in the very depths of the ocean that they are reading about. The attention to details, such as the barnacles on the turtles, helps the reader truly understand what life is like for these creatures. I especially liked the addition of the conservation tips at the end of the story and the additional resources that children can explore to learn more about these amazing animals.
